Dean Bradford Deuell, 93

Dean Bradford Deuell, age 93, of Allison, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Rehabilitation Center of Allison.
Dean was born on February 2, 1932, at home near Forest Grove, Oregon, the son of Herbert B. and Viola (Nagel) Deuell. At age three the family moved to a farm near Shell Rock, Iowa, where he attended country school and later Shell Rock High School, graduating in 1949. Dean served in the United States Army from December 1952 to November 1954, stationed in Germany. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve until being honorably discharged in 1960. Dean was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hovenga on December 14, 1954, at Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. They began their married life on a farm near Shell Rock where they were blessed with two children, Dale and Sheila. They later moved to a farm near Coster, Iowa and in 1970, moved to the present farm near Allison.
Dean was baptized at Unity Presbyterian Church and was currently a member of Dumont Reformed Church. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, serving with gratitude on consistories in churches where he was a member. Dean was a member of Dumont American Legion Post 360.
He loved his family wholeheartedly and took yearly vacations with them seeing the wonders of nature in different parts of the world. A quiet and gentle man, Dean felt his calling in life was farming. His greatest enjoyment in life was farming, especially dairy cows, raising top quality alfalfa, and gardening in retirement, always striving to leave the land better than he found it.
Dean will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Sheila (Steve) Hill and children Jen (Mark) Neely, Matt (Niki) Hill, and A.J. (Sarah) Hill; daughter-in-law Deb Deuell and Dale’s children Dana (Chris) Hinders and Daniel (Aimee) Deuell. His great-grandchildren Logan, Carter, Ava, Ari, Perin, and Hunter; and sister-in-law LaVonne Hovenga.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, parents, in-laws and son, Dale Deuell; brother Donald Deuell and his wife Carrie; sister-in-law Bernice Freeman and her husband Lavern; brother-in-law Donald Hovenga; and nephews Lee Deuell and Henry Hovenga.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Reformed Church. Burial with military rites by Dumont Legion Post 360 will follow in Allison Cemetery.
