As Memorial Day weekend approaches, area campsites are filling quickly.
Most parks will have nonelectric sites available for the Memorial Day weekend, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources states ...
Wilder Park
Wilder Park spans 78 acres in eastern Allison. It boasts 50 electrified campsites.
Please see the March 5 Butler County Tribune-Journal and Clarksville Star for the full story, including the status of the Wilder Park Lodge and five Butler County Conservation-maintained campgrounds.
Vacancy exists for Memorial Weekend at the recently built Wilder Park Lodge, as of Friday, Feb. 27 ... To reserve the lodge or inquire about campsite options, call Allison City Hall, 267-2245, or email callison-at-netins-dot-net.
County Conservation
Butler County Conservation Board manages and maintains five campgrounds, Conservation Director Mike Miner said. All campgrounds are first-come, first-serve, and all have free camping on Wednesdays.
Miner said in the week before Memorial Day, most people pull in Monday through Wednesday to get a spot for the weekend ...
“We recommend coming the early part of the week to make sure you get the spot you want, (such as) an electrical post,” Miner said.
Three of the conservation-run campgrounds have flush toilets and showers. They are Heery Woods State Park, near Clarksville, Beaver Meadows Park, near Parkersburg, and the Shell Rock Recreation area, near Shell Rock.
Two more grounds have flush toilets but no showers. They are Wunsch Memorial Park in Greene and Camp Comfort south of Greene ...
"Shell Rock and Camp Comfort definitely fill up fastest, but all are used heavily that weekend," Miner said.
