The Allison council chamber was packed Monday evening as locals showed up to support the addition of Wilder Park camping sites.
Dr. George North, President of the Park Board, asked the council for approval of the addition of the 20 camping sites and a dog park on property already owned by the park. Both ideas were approved.
The total cost of the dog park will be around $10,000, but plans are to raise funding entirely through grants and private donations. The cost of 20 additional camping sites is estimated at $75,000. This will be financed by a loan from a local bank, payable by the park board.
In introducing the dog park proposal, North explained that because Wilder Park is in the city of Allison, the park tries to enforce the city’s 6-foot leash law. But that’s not easy.
