HAMPTON – Consider all of the talent that Hampton-Dumont has boasted in baseball this summer and consider the fact the first career no-hitter among it came in the final regular season game for spot starter Brandon Westendorf.
In fact, Westendorf was one hit batter away from a perfect game against North Butler (8-11) on Thursday, July 9 in the Bulldogs 10-0, five-inning win as they improved to 20-10.
“It’s easy to pitch when you have defense like I have behind me,” Westendorf said. “I have a lot of trust in them and confidence in them. I know they’ll get the job done as long as I throw strikes.”
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Westendorf had an 0-2 count against Todd Dolan, proceeded to throw three straight balls and then the fourth pitch slightly grazed Dolan, sending him to first to break up the perfect game.
