Plans for an ice skating rink at Volunteer Park are moving forward. The council unanimously voted to approve the purchase of the rink to take advantage of this year’s prices. Current insurance for the park covers liabilities, and the rink just may be installed yet this winter.
“If the weather cooperates, we’ll go for it,” said Maintenance Supervisor Matt Kampman. “If not, first thing next year, we’ll set it up.”
The splash pad project’s effect on Volunteer Park isn’t over yet. The council voted to approve the down payment on new playground equipment for Volunteer Park with donations remaining from the project.
“The whole thing is $34,000. We’re paying for it with what we have left from the splash pad and the last grant and a gift. We’re only $2000 short, except for the cement footings. We need to do a little more cement around the splashpad,” Cindy Wedeking of the splash pad committee said. “Out of that, we’ve already paid for the tables, benches and some umbrellas.”
