CHARLES CITY – A redeeming moment for both North Butler coach Jeff Stirling and graduate Emily Dolan came in the bottom of the 10th inning on Monday, July 14 in the Class 2A regional final against Denver.

Dolan, who missed last season because she was still recovering from an ACL injury, blasted the ball deep to left center to drive in the winning run and send the Bearcats to the state softball tournament in Fort Dodge.

Stirling, who coached a highly-ranked Clarksville team that was eliminated early in 2013, found Dolan soon after the celebration started when Marisa Speedy crossed home plate and enveloped her in a hug that lasted several moments.

“It’s awesome, I mean…last year I had some severe disappointment,” Stirling said. “It took me a long time to get over Clarksville. To turn around and go on and do this, here. It’s just great."
