I was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1966. Shortly afterward I enlisted for an additional year to receive specific training. After basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., I was sent to Fort Gordon Georgia, U.S. Army Southeastern Signal School, to prepare myself as a communications center specialist.
In January of 1967, I was sent to Vietnam to serve in the 725th Maintenance Battalion, Company A of the 25th Infantry Division. There I was in an office handling calls, typing, and other things, which I have forgotten. I do remember that it was seven days a week and many hours each day. We experienced very hot weather and then the monsoon season.
After about six months, I began preparing and processing Article 15’s, Summary, and special courts-martial for Company A, 725th Maintenance Battalion. I then changed my mode of service (MOS) from signal corps to legal clerk.
