Shell Rock River Arts Festival

Persistent rain put a damper on festivities at Shell Rock’s first River Arts Festival on Saturday. But although the river float had to be cancelled, the public arts tour, entertainment at the Hoyt-Elliott Shelter and Boyd Building, and smelt feed went on, and were enjoyed by those who attended.
     The Arts Tour featured paintings and murals at the Shell Rock Pool, Boyd Building, Emergency Services Building, Shell Rock Museum and city hall.
     At the museum, Ruth Cousins stood with her recently completed mural of Shell Rock in the fall. Jim Olmstead was present with copies of his book “One of Life’s Little Dreams,” the story of his trip down the Shell Rock River from Albert Lea to Turkey Foot.
     Photographer Rosemary Willson was at the EMS Building where her work capturing firemen burning the original firehouse hangs on the walls. Her husband Tom Willson has served on the fire department for about 47 years and was on hand to give the Boy Scouts a tour of the new building.
