Shell Rock’s first Old Man River

Michael Schuldt was crowned Shell Rock’s first Old Man River on October 3 and will preside over the River Arts Festival on October 14.
     Schuldt has watched a lot of water go by in the past 66 years as a Shell Rock resident, and has saved three people from drowning and the Shell Rock Mill from demolition. He received 15 out of the 22 total nominations.
     “There’s just something about the river. It’s peaceful, relaxing and always changing,” Schuldt said.
     He believes the river is a real asset to the town—a beautiful resource to draw the public. Recently he’s noticed more people taking the time to enjoy the river—kayaking, canoeing and fishing.
