Senator Charles Grassley wrapped up a week of public forums in Parkersburg on Friday, February 24, with a morning meeting with constituents from Butler County and the surrounding area.
In spite of slick roads and uncooperative winter weather, Grassley’s constituents packed the Parkersburg Civic Center to ask questions and present feedback, both negative and positive, to the visiting senator.
Before taking questions, Grassley opened the floor to comments starting with Black Hawk County Supervisor Chris Schwartz, who criticized Grassley’s 99 county tour for not including larger population centers like Waterloo.
“This 99 county tour thing is rather misleading because you know better than I do that you don’t hold public meetings like this in places like Black Hawk County,” said Schwartz. “We need you to come and speak to these residents that we both represent.” Schwartz also asked Grassley for his support in advocating for Waterloo’s publicly run Country View Care Center.
