Savvy Seniors: Meet Ruth Schabacker

Ruth Schabacker, 95, resides at Shell Rock Health Care Center. Many knew her as their fourth-grade teacher.
     Schabacker grew up in Aurora and played the baritone in band in both grade school and high school.
     As a child, she enjoyed playing neighborhood games such as Ante Over and Red Rover with her sister and friends.
     Her mother always had a garden with potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, peas, beans and cabbage. As soon as she was old enough, she helped her mother with canning every fall.
