Savvy seniors

Bernice Busse and Kathryn Schuknecht, both in their 90s, reside at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison. Schucknecht grew up on a farm in the Greene/Packard area, and Busse originally hailed from a farm near Aplington.
Busse’s family raised dairy cows, pigs, chickens, corn, oats and soybeans.
She attended school in Aplington, where she played the clarinet in the band and sang in the choir. She has fond memories of roller-skating at the rink in Iowa Falls.
After graduating, she worked on the family farm, and then moved to Dayton, OH to stay with a friend. There, she worked at a café, doing a bit of everything.
