North Butler Elementary hosted a Bearcat Way Concert sponsored by the PTO. Artist Bruce Day and the Bearcat Rockers (teachers) performed on Friday, Oct. 5. The concert was a reward for students who had filled a huge jar with pompoms by following the Bearcat Way.
What is the Bearcat Way? Be safe. Be kind. Be respectful. Be responsible. Those are four bullying prevention rules, which are stressed not only during Bullying Prevention Month this October, but year-round at North Butler Schools.
For the concert, students and staff dressed as rock and roll stars. They sang “We won’t bully” to the tune of “We will Rock Them.” Bruce Day presented popular songs such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” He got kids laughing with tunes he wrote himself, and dancing with “La Bamba” as band teacher Susan Brackett accompanied him with maracas.
Other favorites were “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” and “Peanut Butter Jelly Time.”
