Perhaps most of you had witnessed members of our AMVETS Post marching in our local parades.  Who are these guys and what do they do?  I have had some ask about our activities so I will attempt to enlighten the public to our efforts.
In order to belong to AMVETS post 30, one needs to have served in the Armed Forces of the United States in some capacity. This can be Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Army Reserve or National Guard. We have a monthly meeting, normally the fourth Monday evening of each month.  If you have served your country and are interested in knowing more about us, feel free to drop in and ask questions.  Everyone is welcome.
As a community-based Post, we try to support our community.  We support several different causes including the Butler County Veteran’s Van.  This van is used to transport Veterans to Doctor appointments in Iowa City, Des Moines and other medical facilities. It is a free service for our Veterans and the van is driven by other volunteer Veterans.
We also support the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.  When we have our fish fry, we take a certain amount and send to the Home for support of the programs that are carried out for the residents of the facility. This can be used for recreation, field trips and personal items for the residents.
