Over a dozen youth participated in the North Butler Pheasants Forever Shane “Buddha” Beckman Memorial Youth Hunt held Saturday, Oct. 20 at Reiher Family Farms and the Eric Bixby farm near Allison.
The morning started at 8 a.m. at the Bixby farm with a pre-hunt safety meeting where DNR Officer Jordon Hansen gave safety tips and explained hunting laws and how to hunt with dogs and in larger groups in the field.
“Once you pull a trigger on a gun, you can never bring that back, so safety is number one,” said Pheasants Forever member Jason Reiher. “Safety is very important. All these kids have gone through hunter education.”
After breakfast, the hunters, hailing from Clarksville, Allison, Greene, Aplington, Plainfield and Gladbrook, did some trapshooting to warm up before heading to Reiher’s farm.
