St. Peter Quilters finish over 400 quilts for charitable causes
St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greene was founded in 1872. Today the church boasts an enthusiastic pastor, a busy quilting group, and approximately 140 parishioners between three services.
Saturdays there is a shorter, evening prayer service in the fellowship hall. Sunday morning there is a full Lutheran liturgical service in the sanctuary, and then later in the day there is a casual praise service where high schoolers sing.
St. Peter Quilters (a Thrivent Action Team) is one busy group at the church. This year they sewed over 400 quilts. Last year they sewed 325. Twenty years ago, they averaged just over a hundred quilts a year.
“We’re good friends; we laugh a lot. This is our therapy,” organizer Marilyn Schroeder said.
