North Butler sends veteran coach out with a podium finish

DES MOINES – North Butler senior Bryce Trees has grown up with coach Gordy Smith helping his wrestling journey.
On Saturday, Feb. 16, Smith’s birthday, no less, the two saw each other out as Trees went out with a victory to claim seventh place in the Class 1A 126-pound bracket.
“Ever since I’ve been little, he’s been around the little kid’s room,” Trees said of how long Smith has worked with him. “He’s been there ever since I started, really.”
