At the city council meeting June 5, Clarksville residents showed up in force to rally against the rezoning of Joe Wedeking’s 1876 home for a Dollar General.
The public hearing was held in the library basement, with over 30 people in attendance. When someone asked if anyone was in favor of the rezoning, there was dead silence. The council had no choice but to vote the will of the people.
Mayor Val Swinton said the house had been sold contingent on rezoning, and would most likely revert to Wedeking’s ownership.
While some residents were against Dollar General coming to town at all, most of the objections were based on Wedeking’s home being a terrible location.
