ALLISON – It has been a period of adjustment for North Butler catcher Nicole Heeren the past few weeks.
Heeren has rarely caught anyone besides Taylor Graven the last three years of high school softball, but with the Bearcat ace out with a ribcage injury called an intercostal muscle tear, she has spent the past two weeks working with sophomore Alex Mathers.
“It’s been very different,” Heeren admitted, “but I’ve worked with Alex in the off-season, so it took a couple of games to get in the groove and then Taylor started calling pitches, so everything felt really smooth tonight.”
The rest of the story appears in the July 13 print edition of the Butler County Tribune-Journal.
