Thursday was a good day for two creators of a poignant public service announcement and for their school, North Butler.
KGAN CBS Channel 2 anchors traveled to North Butler Junior-Senior High School in Greene on Thursday, May 12 to present awards to Karley Anderson and Darrian Spainhower for the best Distracted Driving Public Service Announcement. A brief assembly was held to watch the winning video. It shows Anderson driving with two children fighting in the backseat (Addasyn Spain, third grade, and Ainsley, age 4). Meanwhile, Spainhower is walking while glued to her cellphone. Anderson turns around to tell the children to quit, and turns back too late to stop for Spainhower, who is crossing the street. Viewers see both of their shocked expressions as the car careens into the pedestrian. A somber voiceover states: “Not everyone is lucky enough to stop on time. So, don’t test your luck.” A rewind symbol comes up onscreen. The screen turns black and reads, “Real life doesn’t let you rewind.”
