North Butler High School students Sarah Goodrich and Austin Janssen attended the Iowa Youth Institute at Iowa State University on April 25, along with nearly 300 students from 130 high schools.
Both were selected for their papers that looked at food security issues in India. Both presented their solutions to their chosen issues to a group of their peers and some college professors. Gov. Terry Branstad, as the keynote speaker, spoke to the students about Norman Borlaug’s dream of feeding the world through small collective efforts.
Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds emphasized the importance of STEM education and challenged all Iowa high schools to join the Iowa Youth Institute in 2017.
