Connie Debner gave a presentation on April 20 at the Black Sheep Coffee Baa in Greene about her mission trip to Les Cayes, Haiti with a team of 11 Iowans. She works with CLIMB for Haiti, Accolade for Saving Lives and Tous Ensemble.
At Accolade, the mission workers reach out to street boys. These boys were feared because they stole from locals. When caught, they were tortured by the people. 21 of the 25 boys currently in the program had families. But these families lived in the dumps.
At Accolade, the boys are taught skills. They shower, eat breakfast, do homework, study, and have a Bible lesson. There are only two conditions for them to participate: they must go home at night rather than stay on the streets, and they must attend school.
Tous Ensemble is a mission to help people with disabilities.
