It’s not every day that a girl from Clarksville, Iowa is crowned the winner of American Idol. Maddie Poppe’s story is one of hard work, talent and perseverance, and her mellifluous voice captured the hearts of the entire nation.
“I’m voting for you,” American Idol Judge Katy Perry said after hearing Maddie Poppe’s performance of Landslide Sunday evening. And she wasn’t the only one.
Poppe, of Clarksville, is the first Iowan to gain the American Idol title. She also won $250,000, a recording contract with Hollywood Records and a headlining performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Additionally, both she and runner-up Caleb Hutchinson won trips to Disney’s Aulani resort in Hawaii.
Sunday’s performance showcased footage from Poppe’s hometown visit, and featured performances of Poppe’s new single “Going Going Gone,” original “Don’t Ever Let Your Children Grow Up” and “Landslide,” the first song she performed for an audience at Clarksville High School.
