Officer Barry Mackey will be Clarksville’s next police chief, as City Council appointed him for the role on Monday, Jan. 18 — effective Feb. 1. Feb. 1 is also the date of the next regular council meeting (first Monday), at which Mackey is to take the oath as chief.
Regulations state the mayor may appoint or dismiss a police chief subject to a majority vote of the council, said City Clerk Larry Betts, citing the city attorney and Code Chapter 30.06.
Mackey began with the city of Clarksville in October 2014 and now offers 12 years of experience.
