Shell Rock police chief Lou Staudt, 58, unexpectedly passed away early Monday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN to the shock and sorrow of many in the community.
“We just had an open house for his 35 years of service without any intention of his retiring, just to kind of honor him. … He was a long-time employee, and surely is going to be missed. There’s no doubt about that,” Shell Rock Mayor Larry Young said.
Staudt was a recipient of the U.S. Department of Justice Award for Public Service.
