Lasting Love: Max and Marianne Folkerts

Max and Marianne Folkerts of rural Allison were married in 1967 and will celebrate their 52nd anniversary on June 23.
     They attribute the longevity of their marriage to friendship.
     “We were friends first. We went to high school together and always have remained friends,” Marianne Folkerts said.
     Max grew up on a farm southwest of Allison. His family raised crops and beef cattle. Since his father was not in good health, Max and his older brother were responsible for much of the field work. They helped take care of the farm, working with a hodgepodge of tractors—two-cylinder John Deeres, an Oliver, Allis Chalmers, and even a neighbor’s Farmall at times.
