Joy Lavon Schueler (Delker) was born on March 28, 1936, to Harold and Ardith (Jones) Delker on the Dayton Township, Greene, Iowa farm. She attended Dayton #9 County School and Greene High School graduating in 1954. After high school graduation, she was employed by Lutheran Brotherhood in Waverly.

Joy met the love of her life August “Bud” Schueler, and they were united in marriage on July 8, 1956, at St. John's Lutheran Church - Vilmar in rural Greene, Iowa. Joy resided with her husband Bud on the Schueler family farm in rural Bristow until they moved to Allison home in 1994. Joy spent many days working with Bud, mother-in-law Minnie and eventually her sons in operating the farm, while maintaining the farm home and a large garden with equally large strawberry and raspberry patches. The strawberries and raspberries were a staple at most celebrations at the Schueler home. Joy had a special relationship with her mother-in-law Minnie, working side-by-side with her and then breaking at the lunch hour to watch their “stories” that would run on the home television.

Upon their move to Allison, she supplemented her love of reading with a librarian position at the Allison Public Library. She thoroughly loved working with her co-workers and library patrons for many years. Joy was a faithful member at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Vilmar and was involved in many church events, as well as teaching Junior Lutherans.

Joy and Bud’s favorite pastime was dancing, especially polka dancing. They would frequently be found at dances at the Rivera Ballroom in Janesville and the Humboldt Polka Fest. Joy always enjoyed receiving hugs and visiting with her many friends.

Joy is survived by her son Doug Schueler of Bristow, son Robert (Lynne) Schueler of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren Tabitha DeWitt, Kyle (Amanda) Schueler, Austen (Ashley) Schueler and Corben (Megan) Schueler; great-grandchildren Nora, Chloe, Gabi, Drake, Ada, August, and Cam; nephews Ron Salge and Don Salge; nieces Diane Cerling, Jane Martzahn and Beth Nordmeyer; along with many special friends and neighbors.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband August “Bud” Schueler, parents Harold and Ardith Delker, in-laws August and Minnie Schueler, sister & brother-in-law Donna and Dale Hardy and sister & brother-in-law Elizabeth and Eugene Salge.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church – Vilmar and the Allison Public Library.
