She was born October 1, 1948, in Waupaca, Wisconsin, the daughter of Norman and Lida (Boutwell) Peterson. Joan was baptized in 1964 at the Burton Baptist Church in Waterloo. She graduated from East High School, in Waterloo, in 1967. In 1969 Joan was married to Edward Dombrowski in Falls City, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Gregory and Michael. This marriage later ended in divorce and she married Jerry Hammond in 1997 in Eldora, Iowa.
Joan was a cook for people for many years. We all were blessed with her wonderful dishes. She cooked for the Viking and Gold Key restaurants, the Iowa State Training School, her 12 siblings and then her own family and grandkids.
Joan enjoyed cheering Greg and Mike on at football games on Friday nights, baseball games when they were younger and of course the numerous wrestling tournaments. She also loved cheering on her granddaughters at all their various sporting events and activities. Joan also enjoyed all her family trips to Wisconsin.
In her later years, Joan and Jerry were very proud of their beautiful acreage. Joan adored their red petunias during the summer months and the numerous birds they would feed on a daily basis.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 28 years, Jerry Hammond; son Greg (Corey) Dombrowski, daughter Tammy (Todd) Lewis; step-daughters Brooke (Ryan) Dwars, Chelsea (Grant Blake) Hartsock and step-son Adam (Dana) Hammond; grandchildren Caitlin (Mario) Peña, Halie (Nolan Ostrom) Dombrowski, Jaymie and Cydnie Argotsinger and Isabelle Dombrowski; step-grandchildren Paityn, Scarlett, Tate, Asher, Everlie, Hoyt and Hayden; brothers Robert (Carolyn) Peterson, Larry (Nancy) Peterson, Arlen Peterson, Ron (Martha) Peterson, Dennis Peterson and Kent (Mary) Peterson; sisters Sally Peterson, Phyllis (Perry) Barkey, Lori Halverson and Renee (Kerry) Treinen and several nieces and nephews.
