AREDALE — An absorbent sock remained in place on Saturday, June 6 in Boylan Creek south of a set of culverts under 160th Street, east of Birch Avenue in western Butler County.
A spill occurred upstream at a construction project at 150th Street half a mile west of Aredale on June 1. An estimated 10 gallons of diesel fuel and hydraulic oil spilled into the creek when a construction crane overturned.
Taylor Construction, which was working on a farm-to-market bridge for the Butler County Engineer's Office, has installed and is replacing as-needed absorbent pads, socks and booms downstream of the accident to absorb fuel from the creek, said Carl Berg, Department of Natural Resources environmental specialist, who was assisting [the company] and daily evaluating the creek.
