Images of Christmas reveals event details

Images of Christmas began in 1992, with Lola Clark, Jeanette Kramer, Cheryl and Jerry Manning organizing the event.

For the following 10 years, IoC went continued to become tradition. In December of 1993, 38 different sites featured live scenes in nearly all of the downtown windows. For this year’s IoC, a total of 43 businesses, both on and off Main Street, are participating, with some businesses partnering with Main Street shops. IoC 2013 also features: seven churches, school music departments, a 4-H group, costumed characters, carolers and one business Bidding everyone a Merry Christmas.

Some homeowners along Main Street plan on decorating for the season as well.

Several windows are contributing both vocal and instrumental music.

IoC committee hopes individuals or neighborhoods will prepare lighted luminaries for the evening event to resurrect the tradition that began in ’94 with Clark, Kramer, Deb Schellhorn and Dawn Bruhn lighting up four streets coming into town with luminaries.

The lights of the new Christmas tree downtown will be on for the first time Sunday, Dec. 8, while the seven churches portray half-hour nativity scenes (the reason for the season). Hot beverages, sweet treats, hobo stew and smores are a few of the offerings for the event.

NOTE: The Images of Christmas committee is looking for a cardboard fireplace to hang stockings in one of the windows. Contact Lola at 278-4444.
