House fire in Shell Rock

A ranch-style Shell Rock home located in the 600 block of West Prospect Street sustained major damage in a fire Friday morning reported at 7:08 a.m. There were no injuries.
     “The homeowner was alerted by detectors going off, looked down the hall and saw flames coming from either a laundry room or attached garage, ran outside and called 911,” said Butler County EMA coordinator Mitch Nordmeyer.
     At press time, the exact cause of the fire was undetermined, and the State Fire Marshal had been called to assist the Shell Rock Fire Department with the investigation.
     The Shell Rock Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Clarksville Fire Department, Shell Rock First Responders, Butler County Sheriff’s Office/Dispatch, Iowa State Patrol, Mid American Energy and Butler County Emergency Management. The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowner.
