Health Tip of the Month
January is Cervical Health Awareness month.
Butler County Public Health would like you to celebrate by either getting a yearly well woman exam, or encouraging someone you love to do the same. Cervical cancer was once the leading cause of cancer death in women in the United States. However, over the past 40 years, deaths from cervical cancer have decreased greatly. This is due largely to women getting regular Pap tests.
Cervical cancer ranks 14th in frequency, because any abnormalities can be found before developing into cancer. Nearly all cases are caused by specific types of the human papillomavirus (HPV), most commonly HPV-16 and HPV-18.
