Grundy Center ends Clarksville season

GRUNDY CENTER – A pair of unearned runs proved to be the difference in this Class 1A District 4 baseball opener as Clarksville ended its season to Grundy Center, 3-1, on Saturday, July 7.
The Indians started out on top against the Spartans as Chris Behrends led off the game with a triple and scored on a balk in the first.
Grundy Center, however, came back to tie it when Behrends was the recipient of a balk call and then went ahead for good on a two-base error in the third.
“(Errors) they played a huge role,” Clarksville coach Ryan Gebel said. “Cost us a couple runs, especially in some key moments. The first two runs they had were unearned, it should really be a 1-0 ballgame..."
