GREENE – After its third game against a ranked opponent this week, Hampton-Dumont’s girls basketball team had to work overtime to get its only win in the stretch, a 50-47 victory against Class 2A No. 10 North Butler on Saturday afternoon.

It was a bright moment for the Bulldogs, who suffered a road loss at Fort Dodge St. Edmond on Tuesday, Dec. 10 and had their worse loss of the season against Clear Lake Friday night.

“It was a great way to end it,” H-D coach Chad Johnson said. “We didn’t start well the first two games, but boy, the kids just persevered out there. They played hard tonight and it was fun ball to watch tonight.

“I thought defensively, we took away their high post game a little bit and really contested every shot and I thought we did a nice job; down the stretch we shot some free throws and pulled the game out in the end.”
