On Saturday evening July 6, a young lady, Maria Lutter of Hamburg, Germany, biked into Wilder Park asking for a tent site. She had Googled to find a park with tent sites.
Park Board President Dr. George North was informed of her presence, and it was decided to host a breakfast before she left the park. When invited to breakfast, her re-sponse was, “you would do that for me?” Breakfast was set for 8 a.m., but she was a little late. She apologized for being late due to the park be-ing so quiet–she had a great night’s rest. Dr. North made omelets served with rolls and juice. Randy Moad and Doc North presented Maria with a Wilder Park t-shirt. She was so thrilled that she wore it right away. Our visit was short, but so enjoyed.
Maria had flown from Germany into New York City where she started her three-month bike and flying trip to the West Coast. Her sponsor for the trip is Climate for the Future (Nature Benefit). She documents daily her experi-ences and touches base with her mom. She has finished her schooling, but is not sure about future plans. Her goal each day is to travel at least 70 miles, depending on weather conditions. She had spent July 5 at a park in Mar-shalltown. Doc and Randy helped her plan the roads to Minnesota. She was in awe that that they would take the time, and said Wilder Park was the most beautiful park she has visited.
