Free throws in OT lift Clarksville; Indians end 72-game skid

LATIMER – Calm and collected, just like he had for much of the second half, Clarksville sophomore Ben Waetjen stepped to the free throw line with less than a second in overtime and sank both of the winning free throws to end the Indians’ 72-game losing streak on Friday, Jan. 8.
The first-year starter for coach Ross Timmermans’ team was 14-of-18 from the free throw line – 12-of-16 in the second half and overtime to clinch the 45-43 win on the road against Iowa Star Conference rival CAL.
“Man, talk about cool, calm and collected,” Timmermans said. “He stepped up with the game on the line and knocked them down. You can’t say much more than that, the kid’s got some heart and he came through tonight.”
