At the Allison council meeting Monday, August 13, Michael Hanson reported his project to update the Main Street flags for his Eagle Scout project is complete.
The original plan was flag poles would be increased from five feet to six feet to prevent flags from snagging and tearing, and spinner mounts would keep the flags from getting caught on the poles as easily. The cost was estimated at $1025.40.
Hanson said the project was completed with little to no complications. Seven people showed up for four to five hours to get the work done without problem. Costs came in at only 47 percent of the original estimated cost, as an Eagle Scout who had worked on a similar project donated mounts and the city already had some material that was needed. There was also no need to purchase a cabinet as the flags still fit in the closet they had previously been stored in. The entire flag pole spins to prevent flags from getting hung up in the wind. Hanson thanked the city for funding for the project.
“The flags look real nice,” said Mayor James Blockhus. “Thank you too. I commend you for doing this for the city.”
