The Clarksville City Hall suffered significant fire damage on Saturday, July 22. A suspect is in custody.
Officers responded to a call of a person out of control and trying to pick a fight outside of city hall at 3:10 p.m.
According to police chief Barry Mackey, the fire was contained and is currently under investigation by the city and federal fire marshall's office.
The Clarksville fire department succeeded in putting out the blaze within a few minutes. They were assisted on the scene by the Allison and Shell Rock fire departments.
"There is a lot of damage. Everything on the main level has fire damage or smoke damage," said Clarksville fire chief Jon Myers. The structure itself, however, appears to be sound.
As of 6 p.m. Saturday evening, charges had not yet been filed.
Watch for updates as further information becomes available. The full story will be in the July 27 edition of the Star.
