A Family Tradition: Witte Century Farm recognized

Self-reliance and independence have been a tradition in the Witte family ever since Gary Witte’s grandfather left Germany as an 18-year old to work in Iowa as a farm laborer.
     That spirit of adventure and search for a better life still inspires Witte, his daughters Kelly Larson, Laura Sauls and Holly Grover, son Nick Witte, and 16 grandchildren today.
     The Witte family purchased their original 80 acres in rural Dumont, near Bristow, in 1903. Witte’s grandparents built the farm house, themselves, and it still stands strong.
     John Henry and Henry John Witte, both born in 1900, built the barn.
