Q: What do you teach?
A: I teach ninth grade physical science, grades 11 and 12 (chemistry, physics, and astronomy).
What have students in your class been learning this year?
The physics students are starting to plan a contraption for the engineering design contest. They also will be participating in the cardboard boat races.
Just started astronomy and plan on having them use the star lab which is a large blow up planetarium to put in the gym.
How long have you worked as a teacher and how did you get started? What motivated you to become a teacher?
I have been teaching 23 years just about every science from grades 5 through 12.  I didn’t start in education but finished a degree in Biology and Chemistry. I wanted to go to vet school, but circumstances changed.  So I went back and got a teaching certificate and have never looked back. I am glad that it worked out this way because I do like my job. While I did not start out with plans to become ateacher, I would never change a thing.
