Faces at North Butler: Meet Lindsay Landers

“You can’t educate a child who isn’t healthy, and you can’t keep a child healthy who isn’t educated,” Jocelyn Elders said.
     That’s one of North Butler school nurse Lindsay Landers’ favorite pieces of advice. Serving as a school nurse is about much more than taking care of playground scrapes.
     “School nursing is so diverse. There are several kids with a variety of health needs, and if those needs aren’t met, they will not be able to learn,” Landers said. “By helping kids meet those needs, whether it be getting them something to eat, managing their diabetes, administering medications, dental and vision screenings, making sure they are immunized or simply fixing a minor injury, hopefully they will be better able to learn and grow.”
     Writing health plans to address kids’ needs and taking care of Medicaid billing for the district are among Landers’ other responsibilities.
