A 2006 Link-Belt excavator burned on the countryside Thursday evening.

Likely starting in the engine, the machinery’s blaze grew out of control.

Clarksville Fire responded at 5:10 p.m. to the rural northeast fire. They first showered a pine tree burn pile before dousing the vehicle for nearly an hour.

“When you’re dealing with a lot of hydraulic fluid, diesel fuel and engine oil, it takes quite a bit to put it out,” said Jon Myers, Clarksville Fire Chief.

The excavator was totaled. It stopped working while digging and dropping pine trees in the pile. No one was hurt in the event.
