Dietz enters state senate race

Former Hampton Mayor Shawn Dietz is hoping past experience with local politics will help catapult him to the Iowa Senate in November.

Dietz, 31, announced his candidacy for Iowa Senate District 27 on Jan. 21 at the Franklin County Republican Caucus. He said he was motivated to run after he was approached by a handful of citizens, and has since started laying the foundation for his campaign.
