Cyclical: Land values drop, livestock to increase

A gradual increase to livestock may be taking place in Butler agriculture.

The county’s land value dropped by 11.46 percent in 2014, from $9,904 to $8,769 per acre.

Butler Program Coordinator Nancy Jensen says the dry season allowed other regions to raise more corn and soybeans than typical, reducing prices for the crops, along with land value.

“It’s a domino effect,” she says. “They grow it themselves, and they’ve been growing more than they use, and exporting it.”
