Waverly couple started small, now own an international classic car dealership in Greene
“The thing that I enjoy most is knowing that my husband and I live the American dream,” Lisa Austin, co-owner of Coyote Classics said. “We started in a farm in Iowa surrounded by corn fields, with a very small purchase, and we worked together over all these years, without any help. We just did it on our own and became what we are.”
Chad and Lisa Austin started selling classic cars from their home in 2005. Their first purchase was a ’62 Impala they bought for $1000 and sold for $2600. They continued to buy and sell, setting aside whatever profit they made. Now they own a multi-million-dollar classic car dealership, with customers hailing from a dozen countries.
Lisa Austin said her love of cars started in high school when she watched Grease 2. She wanted to be like the girl mechanic. Lisa Austin worked on motors with her dad, and remembers helping swap a starter and polishing her brother’s muscle car.
Chad formerly worked for his father as a sales manager at Jim Austin Auto Center, located where the Coyote Classics dealership is today. The Auto Center sold mostly newer cars, with a few classics on the side.
