'ClarksvilleIndians.com' not affiliated with school or booster club

A website that promoted itself as a source for Clarksville Indians sports schedules, apparel and so on and purchased the domain name "ClarksvilleIndians.com" is neither affiliated with the Clarksville Community School District nor the Clarksville Booster Club, Superintendent Randy Strabala and Booster Club President Michelle Litterer said Thursday, Sept. 3.
A disclaimer at the bottom of the website says DigitalTown.com and its network are not affiliated with Clarksville Indians. All trademarks are held by their respective holders.
The website profits from people who would buy clothes or advertise, perhaps thinking that they were supporting their local team.
"It doesn't support the Clarksville Indians," Superintendent Randy Strabala said. "This is not attached to the school."
Strabala said the company is legally allowed to run this sort of "sales tool" because most community school districts do not have trademarks on their names or logos, unlike college and professional athletic teams.
