Clarksville elementary, junior high, and high school students came together on April 13 and 14 to perform Bedtime Stories (As Told by Our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up). This comical play, written by Ed Monk, features retellings of the classic fairy tales The Princess and the Pea and The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
The play opens with a father (Conner Freerks) putting his daughters Ashley (Mackenzie Medeiros) and Katie (Cierra Bird) to bed because his pregnant wife is not feeling well. The girls each request a bedtime story, but Dad's retellings have a few unexpected twists.
In Dad's version of The Princess and the Pea, the Queen (Kaitlynn Jepsen) informs the Prime Minister (Trenton Hogue) that she is tired of her royal duties and wishes to have her son Prince Reginald (Logan Hinders) rule the kingdom. However, Prince Reginald must first find a suitable bride. Princess Wolanda (Autumn Urban) proves to be a poor match, but the Queen believes her maid Mindy (Brianna Roe) may please her son. However, Mindy must first sleep with a can of peas under her mattress to prove she is worthy of becoming a princess.
The next morning, Mindy told everyone she was up all night. Unfortunately, it was Prince Reginald snoring outside her door and not the can of peas that interrupted her sleep. Prince Reginald is upset with his mother for lying to him at first, but then decides that he'd rather marry a maid who acts like a princess than a princess who acts like a maid. The wedding planning begins immediately, much to the delight of Ashley and Katie.
