City taxes to decrease in 2015

First-year City Clerk Glenda Miller had the budget proposal adopted for fiscal year 2014 last week at a council meeting.

Miller projected property taxes per $1,000 valuation to drop by 12 cents to $18.69, with the agricultural land tax rate staying steady at $3.

“It [the budget] is based on history of spending, so you have to go through every line item in the revenues and expenses and compare it to last year to see what you want to project for the new fiscal year,” Miller said.
