ALLISON — City Council took some philanthropic actions on Monday, June 22.
The council voted to donate $5,230 miscellaneous income it received from a court case involving railroad right-of-way to the 5.2-mile Allison-Bristow segment of the Rolling Prairie Trail, over the course of three years [after a request for support from Butler County Conservation]. It also voted to waive a utility deposit for a nonprofit childcare center starting up in town.
Burgess v. United States was a class action lawsuit in which the plaintiffs sought a judgment of compensation from the United States based on allegations that the Federal Surface Transportation Board’s issuance to use a former Union Pacific Railroad corridor as a trail (Notice of Interim Trail Use) interfered with property interests recognized under Iowa law.
This appeared in the June 25 Butler County Tribune-Journal.
