Some 50 children converged on Wilder Park Aug. 16 to learn skills of use in nature.
The children, under age 14, practiced wildlife calls, archery, air rifle marksmanship, fishing and kayaking as part of North Butler Pheasants Forever Youth Day.
Steve Martin, naturalist with Butler County Conservation, not only hauled in the kayaks on a department trailer but also offered help.
"Steve gives the kids a hand who are struggling," North Butler Pheasants Forever Chapter member Larry Burman said. "They go out tentatively and come back like war horses."
